PR Blogs UK Top 10
Last updated 01/11/2023.
Vuelio uses a proprietary algorithm to create these rankings, based on topic-related content in blogs on its system – you can read more about the process here. Our research team actively seeks out new blogs and bloggers for inclusion, but if you think we’ve missed someone, please get in touch to let us know.
1. Wadds
Well-known to anyone in PR and comms is Wadds, AKA Stephen Waddington, who is top of our UK PR Blog ranking for 2023. With an aim to drive ‘learning, development and innovation’ in the industry with his work, Stephen’s recent posts have tackled tactical use of AI, socially conscious approaches to PR, and agency acquisitions. Bigging-up the important role of comms, Stephen is currently investigating its contribution to management as a PhD research student at Leeds Business School – check out our previous white papers with Wadds here and here.
Another non-mover in this year’s ranking update is Famous Campaigns, where you can find breakdowns of super-successful campaigns from the world of PR, advertising, comms, and the creative industries as a whole. Find recent ‘creativity, inspiration and brand brilliance’ from brands including light-hearted efforts from Play-Doh, Just Eat, and Mountain Dew, as well as harder hitting campaigns from Norwich City FC on mental health, Ikea on homelessness, and Christian Aid on climate change.
3. Comms2Point0
This ‘learning and sharing space created and run for comms professionals’ was launched to ‘showcase best practice communications and to share insights and learning’. Here you can find case studies, articles, and free resources alongside posts on current challenges and successes in the industry. Check out posts on the power of in-person events, how to use TikTok to engage with your target audience, and TV, film, and cinema recommendations for comms professionals (including ‘John Wick 4’ – probably the most famous fictional assassin in the world – great PR team).
Moving up a space this year is Rachel Miller’s All Things IC, which is where to go when you need all things internal communications. With over 20 years of experience in the space, Rachel knows what she’s talking about. Find her blog under the Resources section to dip into inclusive event guides, how the Tarmac brand is supporting colleagues going through menopause, and auditing your internal comms. Want more from Rachel? Pre-order her upcoming book ‘Internal Communication: Design, Develop and Transform Your Organisational Communication’.
Also moving up a spot this year is Neville Hobson, who offers ‘perspectives at the intersection of business, communication and technology’. With PRs often considered a rather tech-phobic bunch, Neville is here to make tech much less scary and more accessible. With all the upheaval among established social media platforms this year, is it time to call time on X? Neville makes the case in a recent post, as well as whether the hashtag needs an upheaval. And if you were wondering about the impact of AI, the blog also covers its role in disinformation.
6. Ronke Lawal
Another well-known and respected figure in the UK PR scene is Ariatu Public Relations founder Ronke Lawal, who consults on subjects including strategy, personal branding, and media training. Passionate about ‘enterprise, equality and equity through inclusive leadership’, there aren’t many better PR people to learn from if you want to make a difference in comms. Read up on why working with a black publicist matters, how entrepreneurs can grow their business, and check out her blog for Vuelio on how women can create the career of their dreams.
Influencer marketing continues to be big business, with no sign of slowing down, but plenty of potential for mistakes if you don’t collaborate with the right people and make plans. Good job Scott Guthrie is here to offer best practice advice as well as updates from the industry of influence. ‘I can’t promise to make you a rockstar,’ says Scott. ‘But my blog posts will help make you a better influencer marketer’. Check out the dedicated PR & Comms blog section, as well as the News in Brief, and Influencer Marketing articles.
Moving up a spot is Dan Slee, who is busy helping to make ‘future comms easy’ by sharing advice on ‘socal media, PR, and digital communications’ on his eponymous blog. Also tackling the difficult subject of AI, Dan’s long read on what comms people need to know about deep fake audio is well worth a read, as is his three steps to writing an effective reactive media statement. Need help with gaining media coverage? Read his piece on what motivates journos, and for regular updates from the blog, you can also sign up to his weekly email.
Back in our PR blog ranking for 2023 is the Amandacomm’s Blog, where this communications professional shares ‘a view on the current events and issues of the day, I also give advice on the communication that I think should be taking place’. Issues worth communicating and exploring now, according to the blog – the links between business continuity and crisis, how to build your own readiness for troubling times, and what happens in the recovery phase when the bad times for your brand have passed.
10. UK Black Comms Network Blog
Aiming to ‘increase the seniority of Black PR and communications professionals in the UK’, the UK Black Comms Network provides ‘learning, resources, inspiration and peer-to-peer networking’. Head over to the website for a list of Black-owned PR and marketing agencies to collaborate with, information on upcoming events, how to become a member, and ways you can pay it forward with coaching and mentoring. In the meantime, get inspiration by reading up on those making a difference in PR and comms in the Trailblazers and Leaders section.
Collaborating with bloggers requires mutual respect and understanding: respect their schedules; take time to read their content to learn their interests; and only contact them if/when they want to be contacted. You can see more advice in our blogger spotlights.
Profiles of these PR blogs and their authors can be found in the Vuelio Media Database.
